This should open the game in windowed mode and allow you to change the rest of the settings. I went to '?:\Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\Users\NewProfile3.xml' (war chiefs is Users2) (Asian Dynasties is Users3), but instead of changing the resolution on file, i changed the windowed mode that is under it. Resetting the video settings to default does but it in full screen but still at 1280x720. I am able to run the game at max settings and it runs perfectly fine but it will not allow me to change any resolution settings as well as change from windowed to full screen. (Compatibility mode set to: Windows XP Service pack 3) Resolution will not allow to change out of 1280x720. So, after experimenting with a bunch of different stuff, i was able to fix it doing the following: (Usually: C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3)Įven after changing it like you mention above it keeps crashing after i try and do any changes on the game. Jon99 is correct with changing the files in the Documents folder.
You're probably changing the files in the installation folder.
I tried some stuff out and found why this is happening to you.
